This presentation will provide an overview of FEMA’s Integrated Public Alert & Warning System (IPAWS) and how IPAWS can be used by government agencies to effectively alert populations. IPAWS is a national system for local, area specific, alerting which provides authenticated emergency lifesaving information to the public through mobile phones using Wireless Emergency Alerts, to radio and television via the Emergency Alert System, and on National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Weather Radios.
IPAWS is a tremendous asset to Federal, State, Local, Tribal, and Territorial entities for Alert, Warning, and Notification. When minutes matter, IPAWS provides these entities with the ability to target specific geographical locations, providing the public within those areas, timely lifesaving information.
