Alternative Energy Solutions for Maritime Assets

In support of a U.S. government agency performing research in alternative energy solutions for maritime assets, the Homeland Defense & Security Information Analysis Center (HDIAC) was asked about alternative energy solutions for U.S. Coast Guard vessels and their capabilities to transition to other sources (e.g., full electric battery or hybrid) to reduce fossil fuel reliance maritime. HDIAC utilized several platforms to discover what types of alternative energy research existed in government, academia, and industry, as all sectors were performing research in this field. HDIAC also issued a request for information on this topic, which produced ∼30 relevant solutions capable of immediately supporting the tasking agency. The purpose of this research was to mitigate reliance on fossil fuels and augment the capabilities of generating energy in nonstandard conditions.
