Dr. Jeffrey H. Musk currently serves as the Chief, Nuclear Detection Division, Nuclear Technologies Department, Research and Development Directorate, DTRA. Dr. Musk holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Physics from the University of Maine, a Master of Science degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Nuclear Engineering), and a Doctorate from Cornell University in Nuclear Science (Plasma Physics). Dr. Musk worked closely with Sandia National Laboratories (Albuquerque) on his doctoral dissertation which dealt with the physics of current-driven wire explosions, a topic of key importance in the pursuit of inertial confinement fusion. Dr. Musk served over 28 years in the U.S. Army, primarily as a Nuclear and Counterproliferation Officer, retiring as a Colonel in 2014. For his final military assignment, he served as the Deputy Director, Office of Proliferation Detection, Defense Nuclear Nonproliferation R&D (NA-22), National Nuclear Security Administration, Department of Energy.
