Charles Rice, Ph.D.

Dr. Charles Rice is an associate professor at the University of Oklahoma. He began his academic training at Illinois State University where he completed his undergraduate and Masters work. At Purdue, Dr. Rice
used nuclear magnetic resonance to study the photodecomposition of trichloroethylene on titanium dioxide, in addition to research with hyperpolarized xenon as a means to enhance weak NMR signals. In 2002,
Dr. Rice went to University of Oklahoma where he joined the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and is an associate professor. The research group uses NMR spectroscopy to answer questions relevant
to vertical advancement in chemistry and biochemistry. Their research led to the discovery that branched poly(ethylenimine) restores β-lactam antibiotic activity against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus,
also known as MRSA.
