Several alloys which use platinum have been promising in fuel cell research. However, the scarcity of platinum makes it an ineffective resource for large-scale fuel cell development. Scientists have recently released research that shows how iron combined with carbon and nitrogen shows promise as a cheaper and more plentiful alternative to platinum.
