In this presentation, a historical review of infectious disease-related combat injuries and deaths will be presented with an emphasis on the 1918 Influenza Pandemic during WWI, dengue and US Marine Forces in Saipan during WWII, dengue and U.S. Forces Haiti and Somalia, malaria outbreak in U.S. Marines deployed to Monrovia, and leishmaniasis and multi-drug resistant bacteria in U.S. Forces during Persian Gulf War II. Lessons learned for future deployments will also be discussed.
