Virginia A. Davis, Ph.D.

Virginia Davis is an alumni professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Auburn University (Ph.D., Rice University). Her research focuses on understanding structure-processing-property relationships for engineering solid materials from anisotropic nanomaterials and/or polymers using a combination of rheological and morphological characterization methods. Her educational activities include teaching students about the grand challenges for engineering, and she is the recipient of several awards, including a 2010 Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers. Prior to joining Auburn University, Davis worked 11
years in Shell Chemicals’ polymer businesses in the U.S. and Europe. She earned her Ph.D. from Rice University in 2006 under the guidance of Matteo Pasquali and Nobel Laureate Richard E. Smalley.
