Andrew Herbert, Ph.D., is a senior research scientist at the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases, Virology Division, Viral Immunology Branch. Herbert received his Ph.D. in molecular virology from Virginia Tech, Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 2009. He completed a National Research Council Postdoctoral Fellowship at USAMRIID before joining the Viral Immunology Branch as a research scientist in 2010. Herbert’s research interests focus on viral therapeutic and vaccine development and virus-host interaction. During his tenure at USAMRIID, Herbert has supported the advanced development of DoD sponsored filovirus vaccine candidates and pioneered the development of novel filovirus vaccines. He is part of the USAMRIID team that first demonstrated the protective efficacy of antibody-based therapies for filoviruses and is currently developing the first known antibody therapeutic against Sudan virus with support from NIH RO1 funding.
